logicAlloy unveils new Gen2 compliant open-source middleware package
logicAlloy's scalable platform eliminates the high software infrastructure costs associated with RFID implementation
Vancouver, Washington - April 17, 2007: logicAlloy Inc. announced today that it has released the RFID industry's first EPCglobal and DoD compliant open source RFID middleware. logicAlloy's ALE Server platform delivers a scalable, item level solution that enables manufacturers and retailers to efficiently track individual items and pallets through their supply chain. ALE Server has been released as open source, giving customers a zero-cost software license for deployment of the software. As a fully scalable solution, logicAlloy's products are capable of delivering any level of RFID compliance, from pilot projects to full implementation.
"We see a huge need for an inexpensive, fully compliant solution, and we're very excited to offer this under an open source license" states Hans Isern, logicAlloy's Director of Business Development. "Open source allows access to the source code for the software, encouraging a collaborative environment between users and ultimately a more stable, standards-based product."
RFID allows the tracking of individual goods throughout a supply chain, providing real time data of each item, with far more accuracy and ease of collection than traditional barcode based systems. This level of supply-chain visibility decreases shrinkage, reduces stock-outs, and lessens data collection costs. However, software and integration costs are estimated to be above 55% of the cost of RFID deployment, creating a cost-prohibitive environment for adoption of full systems. logicAlloy products mitigate this by providing simple solutions with no-cost software licenses.
ALE Server is an OSI Certified Open Source Software program and is released under the Sleepycat license model. It is available on sourceforge.net and www.logicAlloy.com.
